How many people smoke?

One of most widely spread habit that is common to almost all countries is tobacco smoking. It can be surely presupposed that smoking community is the biggest one. It gains together people of different taste, genders, generations, nations and financial status.

Why it is so huge? Response is simple: there are no restrictions in taste and choice. This community has taste of freedom. To every member are offered large assortments of tobacco products of different flavor, size and composition. Smoking help to relax, give time for thinking, smoking you have more free time…List can have a very long continuity, and this is asserted by all tobacco smokers.

If presenting a world portrayal of smokers we came to the following statistics. If break down by race/ethnicity, the numbers were as follows:

  • Whites-22.2%
  • African Americans-20.2%
  • Hispanics-15.0%
  • American Indians/Alaska Natives-33.4%
  • Asian Americans-11.3%

It is known that one of most recent trend is smoking among women. We can share the same statistic among genders, and we came to following:

  • Among non-Hispanic whites, 24.1 percent of men and 20.4 percent of women smoke (2004).
  • Among non-Hispanic blacks, 23.9 percent of men and 17.2 percent of women smoke.
  • Among Hispanics, 18.9 percent of men and 10.9 percent of women smoke.
  • Among Asians (only), 17.8 percent of men and 4.8 percent of women smoke.
  • Among American Indians/Alaska Natives, 37.3 percent of men and 28.5 percent of women smoke.

If speaking about United State statistics, here also are registered impressing numbers.

Projecting a statistics, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 44.5 million US adults were current smokers in 2004 (the most recent year for which numbers are available).

If estimating this number in percentage, then this is 20.9% of all adults. So, it is equal to 1 out of 5 people.

If separate this number by genders, in the United States, an estimated 25.1 million men (23.4 percent) and 20.9 million women (18.5 percent) are smokers.

So, it can be concluded that smoking was, is and will be an import part of peoples life, doesn’t matter what color of skin they have or that are their financial situation.
